Why Is Muscle So Important?
Updated: Sep 18
No one wants to feel weak. Unfortunately, it's difficult to fake it when it comes to physical strength. And if your body isn’t feeling as firm as it once was, and your strength isn’t what it used to be, there is a very good explanation for that. Did you know that after the age of 30, people who don’t perform strength training can lose 3%-5% of their muscle mass each decade? Along with losing muscle, this natural aging process also causes you to gain fat. And the worst of it is, the weakening and widening tends to sneak up on you until one day you don’t recognize the body you live in, nor do you feel comfortable in your own skin, but there's hope for you yet! There’s a solution that can put a stop to all of this nonsense and it’s called strength training. Muscle truly is the answer and here's why.
Build Muscle, Burn Calories
Less muscle makes for a slower metabolism, which then causes you to gain fat. Because muscles engage and move, they require more energy to naturally sustain, whereas fat is simply storage. If your metabolism seems to be dragging, chances are what it's been missing is lean muscle mass and strength training is the answer.
If you haven’t worked out before and you aren’t sure where to start, don’t fret. The most effective form of exercise for building muscle is high-intensity training or HIT. This approach provides the best results safely, and efficiently.
When performing HIT, your efforts will not be wasted since all of your hard work goes straight toward muscle-building. This focused demand on the muscle will provide the necessary stimulus to gain strength in the least amount of time possible. By achieving this increase in muscle, you will be boosting your metabolism simultaneously. It's a win-win for burning calories!
"Having more lean muscle can speed up the fat loss process, as increased lean muscle increases your metabolic rate — so simply put, you are burning more calories in a resting state."
Strong Muscles, Strong Bones
When you combine a lack of strength with brittle, weak bones, your balance and stability are directly affected which can lead to falls and broken bones. Strong muscles stabilize your bones and joints allowing them to function safely and effectively.
High intensity training (HIT) will increase muscle mass which in turn increases bone mass and can prevent Osteoporosis. Posture is also directly related to muscle mass. In order to keep your skeletal structure tall and upright, those necessary muscles must be strong enough to do their job.
Strength training with HIT will build muscle, increase bone density, stabilize bones, and keep you upright. Timed static contractions are a great way to perform HIT at home, and the TSC-90 workout is portable and effective.
"A regular exercise program that includes strength training will allow us to maintain bone and muscle strength, coordination, and balance, which will help prevent falls and related fractures."
Strong Body, Happy Body
When your body feels good, life is better. It’s that simple! If your body is in pain or falling apart, that prevents you from doing the things you love to do. Making your body move requires muscle and the more muscle you have, the more efficiently your body can do its job. By building muscle, you are keeping your body strong and allowing it to function properly.
The stronger you are, the more capable and self-assured you are when participating in life. Your movements and actions are executed with intent, versus apprehension. When you have that confidence in your body, you are less likely to suffer an injury.
In order to safely go for a hike, a bike ride, row a kayak, or simply play with your children, you must have the muscle mass to allow you to safely enjoy these activities. A strong body makes for a fuller, richer life.
